There are over 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. As signified by the motto Service Above Self, Rotary’s main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.

Letter from 2008 Scholarship

winner Alaina Julian

Martinez Rotary Club,
My name is Alaina Julian, a graduate of the Environmental Studies Academy. In June of 2008 I received a one thousand dollar scholarship from your organization. Although no amount of words can express my gratitude, I would like to say thank you for your generous contribution to my education. With the scholarship I have received I plan to enroll in Diablo Valley College (DVC) where I will acquire the two years of general education required before I can apply to a four year college. I am also working on an application to join the Students conservation Association (SCA) where I will strengthen my skills in environmental education. These experiences in DVC and SCA will prepare me for my ultimate goal, acquiring my teaching credential& I have not yet decided upon an ideal college for achieving this goal but I hope to receive some good recommendations from mentors at DVC and SCA. With my teaching credentials I will teach transformative education, the same method of learning that inspired me to excel in school. The scholarship I received from your organization will aid me in the first steps of obtaining my dream. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for this incredible opportunity. Thank you so much.
Sincerely,
Alaina Julian
